I have realized recently that I am a list person. I have a lot of lists. At this very moment I am crossing off items off my thesis submission checklist.Such lists always come and go, but there is the ever constant 'Do before I die' or 'Bucket list' however you may wish to call it. It is always evolving, many additions and few deletions take place. The yearly review of the list took place yesterday and I have managed to cross a few items off it.
One of the major items to be crossed off was visiting Old Trafford and watching a match there. I did that twice and the second time was better. My memories of Old Trafford will now include listening to the stories of an old man who has been watching Manchester United play for the last 40 years, watching Manchester United play their first home game of this season and winning it and receiving a complimentary scarf from Old Trafford for being a loyal supporter. It must be mentioned that I would have never had this fascination for football if it not had been for two close friends. I hope they check it off their wishlist very soon.
The second item to be crossed off the list was visiting Europe. I know studying just in the UK does not qualify as visiting Europe, so I will half cross it off. It has been the best year of my life so far. I have never enjoyed studying and living in a place more. As my multiple posts will indicate, I am in love with this city. Another thing that was struck off was watching it snow. Consequently the childish wishes of building a snowman, having a snowball fight and making snow angels were also fulfilled.
The yearly review together with a chance occurrence also induced envy. A person that I met recently seems to have an almost similar list. The envy inducing factor though is that he has done many of the things on my list. Each time I seem to mention some activity to him, it manifests itself as either photographs or emails with an intent of carrying out that activity. This is an impetus enough to get me moving on my list. I hope to have struck off five more items by next September.
The items include:
1) Visit Germany
2) Go whale watching
3) Winter trek in Ladakh/ Trek to Everest Base Camp
4) Spot the Great Indian Hornbill
5) Visit Andaman and Nicobar
